First years
Proper watering is the most important care required during the first years after transplanting arborvitae.
The soil should be allowed to dry out to the point where the soil is damp to the touch before a complete re-watering takes place. This practice should be continued at least through the first year. Soil moisture should be monitored closely for the next two years with corrective action taken as needed.
Up to three inches of mulch applied around the base of the plants will help retain moisture. More than that could deprive the roots of needed oxygen.
Keep watering into late fall if there isn't much rain so the plant has adequate moisture going into winter. |
