Emerald Green
Known in our area as Emerald Green, this plant has several other names. It is also called the American Arborvitae, Northern White Cedar, or, scientifically, Thuja occidentalis. Its original name was "Smaragd" as the variety was developed in Denmark.
Not surprisingly, this plant has bright emerald green foliage. It is a conifer evergreen that is widely used as a tree or as a privacy hedge shrub. unpruned plants have a narrow, compact, pyramidal shape with branches that are dense and crowded together.
The scale-like leaves are abruptly pointed. Leaves are bright green above and pale green below and they may turn a yellow brown in some winters.
